May 3rd, Suubi Youth Participate in Income Producing Activities.

The last few weeks at Suubi Centre have seen the youth participating in training sessions for income producing activities. They included learning new skills to make bricks, roof and floor tiles, candles, soap and cakes. See photos and read more.

We are thrilled to have recently received photos and information about the expansion of our mushroom project in Uganda. The Suubi ladies, who have successfully been growing mushrooms over the past couple of years, are now passing on those skills to the parents at two of our Ugandan partner schools! There was much excitement on March 22nd when Lwengo District, Uganda, held an event to celebrate International Women's Day. It was a chance for local women to get together, share idea, discuss issues, enjoy each others company, but most importantly, celebrate being women of the world! February 27th, Baby Hope Arrives at Suubi.

Namwange Florence, our nurse/midwife at Suubi Community Clinic, has just given birth to a beautiful baby girl who she has name Hope. Mother and baby are both doing well.

Feburary 4th, Medical Supplies Sent From Australia Put To Good Use.

Medical supplies which were donated by Kyabram Health Services, Australia were recently delivered to Suubi Clinic in Uganda. They are now being put to great use and helping to provide better healthcare to the people of Lubanda Village and surrounds. Read more...

January 8th, New Volunteers now at Suubi.

Suubi Complex, in Lubanda Village, has been a hive of activity over the last few weeks. Three longer term volunteers in Ian Mc Innes, Hannah Jansen and Rachel Walker arrived over the Christmas, New Year period and have settled in well. Spending between six weeks to six months at the centre, they will be turning their hand to a variety of activities, Read more about it here. 6/12/2011, Suubi Youth Learn Coffee Grafting

Throughout October and early November five Suubi youth undertook training in coffee grafting at one of the recognised coffee farms in Lwengo district. They have now returned to Suubi to teach other interested youth their new found skills. For more information and photos check it out here.

Much of todays Hug Annual General Meeting was spent celebrating the successes of the past 12 months, including the addition of the Suubi Community Health Clinic to our complex in Lubanda Village, Uganda. You are sure to enjoy reading the Annual Report, which gives a fantastic over view of everything that has been achieved over the past 12 months.

We are thrilled that all of our dedicated board members have agreed to continue on for a further term. As a board, we look forward to continuing to create an environment whereby both Ugandans and Australian can learn and grow with one another. (HUG - Help Us Grow)

The 2nd annual Suubi Music, Dance and Drama Festival was held at Kyasonko Primary School last weekend. The theme for the day was 'Sanitation and Health in Schools'. All eight participating primary schools brilliantly passed on the message through five different performances; a poem, folk song, creative dance, traditional dance and short play. We are thrilled to advise that we have recently finalised the formation of a partnership between the Kyabram (Australia) and Masaka (Uganda) Rotary Clubs. Not only will this provide an excellent cultural link between the two clubs, it will also have an added benefit for anyone wishing to make a donation to HUG.

The partnership has enabled us to have our Suubi project excepted to be part of Rotary Australia World Community Service Ltd (RAWCS). One of the huge benefits of this is that all donations made to HUG can now be tax deductible.
