Saturday October 24th saw the Suubi Education and Community Centre in Lubanda Village come alive as hundreds of members of the surrounding community came to participate in the worldwide 350 International Day of Climate Change. Many different individuals and groups from the surrounding area, including eight schools and the Suubi Ladies Group came to perform and enlighten the wider community about how we can all have a positive impact on the environment. Local newspaper, radio and TV journalists were at Suubi to cover the event which bought much excitement to the previously secluded and often isolated village. After sharing their knowledge and learning from each other the whole community is now inspired to work together to help stop climate change!

The Suubi Ladies Group sung and danced telling the story of how fuel efficient stoves have improved their lives. They also told of the positive impact the stoves will have on climate change and the ongoing benefit to the environment.

School children from the area performed to the huge crowd enlightening them about the positive impact of water harvesting and the establishment of organic gardens at their schools.

Other individuals and groups from within the community used drama to tell of how the world must work together to cut omissions and stop climate change.

Photos of the Ugandan community in front of Suubi were posted on the 350.org site along with many other nationalities from the 5200 events held across 181 countries worldwide.
To think that 12 months ago the Suubi Centre was still just a dream and now it is a place for the whole community to come participate in such an important event is quite unbelievable. Well done and thank you to each and every person that has made this possible in such a short space of time.
