It is so exciting to be passing on to all you HUGgers out there the many exciting programs that are now up and running at Suubi.
After the huge success of last weeks fuel efficient stove training for many adults from the community, this week saw Suubi teeming with students and teachers from five surrounding primary schools.
Rain has recently fallen in the area and the schools are now preparing to sow crops in the organic gardens that HUG and D+ have helped them to establish. With this in mind it was decided to hold a training day at Suubi to explain the finer points of setting up nursery beds. The importance of creating an effective garden bed solely for the purpose of raising plants from seeds was expertly explained to the children by the university students. The participating students will now pass on this knowledge to their respective schools who will then establish similar nursery beds as part of their preparation for sowing new season crops.

University students passed on their broad knowledge of establishing nursery beds. It is an important element of creating a successful organic garden.

Enthusiastic students took many notes and asked lots of questions.

When the theory had been completed, students and teachers moved outside to put it all into practice!

Once seeds had been planted in the completed nursery bed it was covered with mulch to help retain moisture while they grow.
And while all the exciting new 'environment and development programs' at Suubi have been busy empowering a broad section of the community, the banda construction continues to go ahead in leaps and bounds!

The roof is starting to take shape.

Interior grass lining is installed.

Iron sheet go on.

Even a local shower has been installed at the centre so that overseas volunteers will feel more at home. I can't wait to get back there and try it out!!
I hope you are all enjoying staying in touch with latest news from Subbi. It is definitely an exciting place to be at the moment!
