This year our annual Suubi Schools' Music, Dance and Drama Festival was staged at the site of the new Suubi Secondary and Vocational College. This added even more excitement to what has become a much loved event for participating schools and the entire community.
"Vocational And Formal Education Can Go Hand In Hand For Self-reliance” was the perfect theme for the day. This saw each of the ten participating primary schools perform a traditional dance, a skit, a composed song and a creative dance; all of which helped to get this most timely message across to the huge crowd. When SSVC opens, at the beginning of next year, this is exactly the type of curriculum that will be on offer!

Kysonko primary school's creative dance was a hit with everyone.

Lubanda Islamic PS's costume helped to spread the love.

The traditional dance of Sseke PS was filled with colour and energy.

The huge crowd were throughly entertained by the performances at the same time as learning about the importance of combining vocational and formal education.
Many of the students who attended the MDD event will be eligible to apply to be one of the first fifty Senior 1 students, who will become the inaugural class of 2015. This certainly helped to attract many parents, teachers, district officials, local opinion leaders and the wider community. Everyone was keen to check out the brand new classrooms structure and biogas unit; no-one would have ever dreamed of seeing this type of development in Lubanda Village!
The chief guest for the day, Lwengo District's Member of parliament, the Honourable Nakabira Gertrude, was suitably impressed with what she saw and encouraged the entire community to get involved. The District Education Officer, Ankunda Doreen, also promised to work closely with SSVC to help make the most of the wonderful new facilities and hard work that has already been achieved to date.

Nakabira Gertrude spoke to the large crowd of the importance of everyone getting behind the work that Suubi does and of everyone working together to uplift the standard of living in the area.
One of the many highlights of the day was the team of professional performers who travelled from Kampala. Artists the calibre of hip hopper BB Mwanvu Mwanvu and acrobat Bruce Monday are rarely seen in the village, so everyone was thrilled to see them perform. Along with singers Rydee and Record Era they really helped to spice up the whole event.

BB struck a cord with the crowd.

Everyone was thrilled by Bruce Mondays acrobatic performance.

Clever business people took the opportunity to sell ice creams and drinks to the huge crowd who were enjoying the days entertainment.
With so much to get through the event was a little late in finishing but no-one minded at all; it gave everyone a chance to see the biogas lights in action - something many of them would not have believed if they had not seem it with their own eyes! The lights certainly helped as presentations were made. Each school that had participated received a certificate, while prizes of traditional dance costumes were awarded to the winners of each category.

Ankunda Doreen was happy to shake hands with the Bright Light teacher as he received their certificate from the official party.
