Computer training, which is now available at Suubi Centre, is passing on valuable computer knowledge and skills to a variety of people within the local community. Prior to the arrival of computers at Suubi there was little or no access to such technology for those in the village. In-fact, many people had never had an opportunity to lay their hands on a computer.
Jane, Flavia, Ritah and Chrice were among the first to use the computers,
an opportunity not previously available to them in the village.
Now school students, business people, teachers and others are being taught 'Introduction to the Computer'. As their skill levels improve they will then move on to relevant packages like microsoft word, excel and many others. They will utilise these skills as computers become more a part of peoples day to day lives in Uganda. In the future we also hope to have internet access at the Centre so people in the village can learn from the many resources it provides and communicate via email, therefore opening up a whole new world to them.
Joan learnt her computer skills at Suubi and went on to teach others.
Joan was one of the very first people to take up computer training at Suubi. She had very little exposure to computers prior to beginning at Suubi, but after training at the centre she acquired many new skills. In fact, she then went on to help train others at Suubi as a volunteer. At the end of 2010 Joan began a university course and she is now using the computer skills she learnt at Suubi for her study purposes. It is very exciting to see the computers at Suubi already having such a positive impact on someone's life and this is sure to be duplicated many times over in the future.
